Casting On

The blog about knitting and community.

I’m new to knitting and enjoy how it’s meditative and creative. With this blog I hope to start conversations and share patterns and tips for success.

Here are some lessons I’ve learned so far:

  1. If you want to create a block pattern, let’s say of five rows for each block, you alternate knitting and purling for five rows and then start the second block by repeating the stitch used in the previous row. So, this looks like KPKPK, then KPKPK.
  2. It’s good to hold your first project lightly. (I unraveled 20 inches of scarf after seeing it was too wide.)
  3. Knitting is great for generating new ideas for other areas of your life and finding solutions to problems.

What are your thoughts on knitting? I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Jessica, Thanks so much for stopping by my page. You are so nice to take care of your grandparents that way. Knitting is a good way to meditate and be creative, but there are tons of other ways. You are good at writing. Have you tried writing poems? Take care. Laura

Hi, Laura. I am going to start reading your posts. I will comment on your posts. My grandparents don’t need help yet, but I come to hang out with them. It was raining here, so I didn’t pick up my grandma then go out to eat because she didn’t want to get out in the rain. Knitting is a good hobby to keep you in mediation. You are a creative person. I am going to find out what my hobby is some day. I appreciate you saying, “I am good at writing.” Let’s talk anytime.
